Friendship… –
this is what keeps me going
This is quite a personal post and it wasn’t easy for me to write…It is hard to find the right words for what means so much to you. This is about one of the most important people in my life.
They say you cannot choose your family but you can choose your friends…
And in my life there is a special friend who means everything to me. Sandra is my best friend and I love her to bits.
We have been friends for nearly all our life now and nothing was able to change this…not living on the other side of the world, not not seeing each other for years, not anything else…
True friendship isn’t about how often you call or how often you catch up, I think. It is about what’s between two people.
Over the time of our friendship it never mattered when we saw each other last or that we haven’t been on the phone for far too long. As soon as we are together it’s all like back in the days when we went to school together. No words needed to understand each other… (Which doesn’t mean we don’t talk…I can assure you we can talk straight for a week without having a break!)
Why am I writing about friendship and especially Sandra today?
She has to go away for work this weekend and will stay for 4-5 months.
Sandra is a soldier and I know she’s as passionate about her job as I am…and I am happy for her. But knowing she is going into a military action still makes me worried… I know she will be safe and I always knew the day she will go was coming but it is still a weird feeling. For me she will always be my little best friend (she is quite a bit shorter than me so that’s where the “little” is coming from). And this time it will be different with one of us gone away from Germany.
I know, I couldn’t just go and visit her. We will definitely not be able to see each other for the time she’s gone. And yes – we have not seen each other for more than one year at the time when I was in Australia…but we could have. And this little fact that we could have…this makes it feel like now she’s moving to another planet.
A few weeks ago I visited her and we had (like always) a wonderful time.
Here are a few photos of our days together…
Sandra, I am so damn happy to have you in my life and I will be counting the days till you’re back! I love you.
