Life with a Puppy II –
Less Noise, More Puddles and Learning Patience…
Yep – I already learned the first week that owning a puppy is a bit like having babies (apparently). I’m only missing the hormone to find it wonderful to get up in the middle of the night… Its crying, wants to play and needs to wee a lot. She sleeps during the day and is bright awake at night.
Well week two had way more sleep than week one, but we are still far off my preferred 6-8 hours sleep a night. But we’ll get there…
The tip of Lana’s breeder to not fill up her 1l water bowl before going to bed (as puppies work like a sponge and have a bladder in the size of an espresso cup) and to feed her waaaay before going to bed definitely gave us some more hours of sleep.
In general week two was a lot more quiet than week one. No more death-yelling when going to the box. Actually this thing with all the pillows and toys might not be too bad. And as Lana likes to sleep during the day and party at night I came up with a puppy-tiring-program: A big long walk not around midday but just before sunset, then some playtime and some “don’t eat dirt. No, horsepoo is gross. Don’t eat the dried frog!”… And there we are! Life isn’t fair! Puppies are not allowed to have fun at ours – if you ask Lana.
And then this stupid Pointer! He’s running too fast and playing too little…
But instead she met some Yorkshire Terrier (funny as they are the exact same size) and lots of other dogs and had great playtimes. They all payed waaaay better than Bino.
And myself? I learned to have patience…that’s not easy as I am in general a very inpatient person and everything has to happen right away and now. And quite a few times I had to proof Lana that I am even more stubborn than she is…she gotta learn who’s the boss.
Oh and I found out how adventurous going out for dinner in a restaurant with a 9 week old puppy is. “Nope, don’t pull down the table cloth.” or “No, don’t trip up the waiter.” as well as “Nooooo, the little puppy doens’t want a drink anymore, its after 8pm.” Were only a few of the things I said. (Last one leads to everybody looking at me like I am absolutely nuts…)
And at the moment I prefer restaurants with big windows so she can a) decorate them with her nose and b) check out whats going on outside so she’s not dancing under the table.
And I mean – at some stage she finally falls asleep – right before leaving. So I can either drag her behind me like a broken children’s toy or carry her our.
Other than that…Bino is slowly getting used to her (he showed it in weak moments). They curled up in the café and he even said good morning to her twice with a sniff. Twice! In two weeks…
Here are a few images from week two. Let’s see what happens next week…we’re going to Berlin.
