Engaged, yay! What to do now? –

An After-Engagement Advice...

It’s been about two years ago that Ingo and I got engaged…and I have been postponing the idea of writing about the whole engagement and wedding planning process for quite some time. So let’s get started, I am trying my best to share with y’all the what has happened and what I’ve learned during the last two and a bit years…

But back to the question: What to do when you just got engaged?
This is pretty simple to answer: Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy! Be happy. Full stop. There is not really anything else you should be doing right after your engagement…
Celebrate your love, hug your lover at least two million times (you can hug more often!). And tell your dogs that their parents are going to be married!

When we got engaged, Ingo and I had to have a little hugging break though…I flew to Australia for about two months to photograph some amazing weddings (you find them here and here) and do other very important things. Well, some important things might have been beach walking but someone has to do it!
After I got back we celebrated with a weekend away in our families mountain…after that we slowly started to tell our family and friends the big news… And I guess for a few months that was pretty much everything we did. Of course we did occasionally talk about what we could/would/might do for our wedding but we didn’t really follow through with anything at that stage. Ingo and I just enjoyed the feeling of being engaged and knowing that we are going to commit to each other…

My engagement ring was done by the wonderful and talented Michaela Roemer, by the way…she was the first wedding vendor, that we contacted. Michaela is a very dear friend of ours and we value and appreciate her talent and work a lot so it was clear from the beginning that she would be doing our wedding rings. But I will chat more about this later 😉

Oh and there is one more thing you should do at some stage between getting engaged and the wedding! Have your engagement photos taken!
We had our wonderful friends Styrmir Kári & Heiðdís Photography take our engagement photos when we travelled to Iceland in May 2018. Some of our favourites are attached to this blogpost…Styrmir and Heidis did a wonderful job and we enjoyed spending an evening with these two legends very much. We wandered along black roads, looked out over fields of steam, possibly climbed a fence and laughed a lot together. And during all this Styrmir and Heidis kept taking our photos and captured the most wonderful moments for us. We still love going through the shots they took for us…these engagement photos mean a lot to us and I recommend it to any couple to take the time (and spare the money) for some photos that capture your love at this special time…
By the way: not pictured in any of these photos is how Ingo ripped his pants when jumping over a barb-wiredd fence…)

So a long story short would be: After you got engaged, take time to celebrate and be together as a couple, enjoy the feeling of being engaged, tell your loved ones and get your engagement photos taken =)

By the way: having your engagement photos taken will help you a lot with your wedding photos as you’ll already know how it is to stand in front of a camera and everything will be way more relaxed!
